Islamic Q & A

Ask Imam a Question

Authentic Islamic guidance based on the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical scholarship

Question : Is the Month of Swafar unlucky ?
Answer :

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
All Praises are due to Almighty Allah who is our creator and salutations be upon his best creation sayyiduna Muhammad
صلى الله عليه و سلم.

No ! The Month of swafar is not an unlucky month in Islaam.

This was the belief and conception of the Arabs in the pre- islamic period ( days of ignorance).

When Rasulullah صلى الله عليه و سلم came, He abolished this belief and conception by saying in a Hadeeth.
وَلاَ صَفَرَ
Ref : swaheeh Bukhari 5707

Which means that there is no bad omen in the month of swafar .

Believing that the month of swafar is unlucky or misfortune month is the belief of ignorant people in the past.

The Month of swafar is like other month, it is not an unlucky month. As a muslim one should not believe in these beliefs and misconception.

And Allah knows Best
